Emergency
Information NOW

Current Situation:
Flooding in Central Texas has caused unanticipated challenges for the North Shore Community
-
The Lake:
All marinas and fishing well are closed. We are working around the clock moving the docks for the continuing rise in lake level. The parks are very wet and muddy. Please stay on paved surfaces and out of the muck and turf areas. Many vehicles have found themselves stuck and or damaged the parks due to driving on them.

We just heard from City Manager Lion Tracie Hlavinka, who was in San Angelo and was in those flood waters before having to negotiate travels back to Lago Vista in flooding waters. She has been communicating directly with Norman and Becka regarding water and other means. The best suggestion that came from Jonestown's Chief and the ESD was to funnel those requests through ESD. They believe tomorrow will be the most important day. Many crews will be doing clean up after the rain stops and some of the water receeds. "I will also let you know if I learn of anything specific."

Lago Vista:

The ESD stood up the EOC shortly after midnight last night and it has been monitoring the situation since then. In talking to Greg Johnston, he relayed needs they were addressing that are primarily outside Lago Vista. I just got off the phone with Greg and Chief Boshears both. I asked them both of any needs and they did not relay any. They are busy, but handling the situation. The lake is down so much that even the severe rains have not caused the lake to rise to a level that would cause severe problems. The flooding is mostly localized. That could change over the next few days and needs could change dramatically if that were to take place. (from Mayor Lion Kevin Sullivan)

So far, Lago has been minimally impacted compared to our neighbors in Jonestown who may need assistance in the coming days. Many search and rescues were done there and continue to be. Getting the word out that people should be staying home and off the roads is needed. We obviously know cow creek bridge was washed out and will be an issue for months to come. People need to know to call 9-1-1 and not the City, PD or FD as most of those resources are out in the field or here at the EOC. I know the Island's lake pumps are down, which provide A/C to the complex and divers won't be able to go down for a week. Many elderly folks there may be without A/C for a week or more. I have heard many reports of leaking roofs and flooded basements. The High School has been opened as an evacuation center as a number of homes along Outpost were flooding from water coming down the hill. 2:50 PM Update: We had another round of heavy rain the past couple of hours. We are at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) which has been working non-stop since late last night responding to this Flood event across our region. The message is still, please stay home and off the roads. If you have not, please sign up for Warn Central Texas alerts to get the most up to date official alerts. Sign up here: https://member.everbridge.net/892807736729515/login Lake Travis is up to 59% and will continue to go up some more as the storms continues on. We are still under a flash flood warning until at least 4 pm. Governor Abbott has declared a disaster in 15 counties including ours. Here at the EOC hearing issues of flooding in low water areas in Lago. The high school has been discussed as an evacuation center if needed, but it has not been needed yet. There is optimism that the worst is behind us, but we continue to learn more as people reach out. Please keep your thoughts and prayers for our first responders and those needing their assistance. Stay home and stay safe.(from City Councilman Lion Shane Saum)
