Hunger is a key pillar of Lions efforts and there is hunger in our community. The Lago Vista Lions accepted the challenge to meet the needs of children who receive free or reduced price meals at school. When schools are closed they are hungry – the local food pantries have told us they run out of food especially in the long summer break.

We have developed a sustainable program to supply the nutritional needs of these children. In conjunction with the community Thanksgiving distribution, we supply breakfast and lunch items for children. During the winter and spring school
breaks, we deliver curated boxes of such items – families with several children or older kids receive extra food. The summer involves four separate deliveries of curated boxes with enough food to last for three weeks at a time.

Lions generously donate items and support our Spirit Days and Nights at local restaurants who donate a percentage of their sales on specific dates. Grants have helped fund our efforts as well.

Recipient families contact us by text and the only information we request is a phone number, number and ages of children and an address for delivery. We will continue to add new families to our list.

There will be roles for all Lions to play in this worthy effort!
