Welcome to Texas Lions Camp

Nestled in the beautiful Texas Hill Country just north of San Antonio, Texas, the Texas Lions Camp offers breathtaking views and exciting opportunities to children from all over the State of Texas. The hilltop retreat combines the best of the Texas Hill Country, with the Lions philosophy of, "We Serve!" This combination provides a one of a kind experience to children with physical handicaps, type 1 diabetes and cancer.

The Organization

The Texas Lions Camp is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving children from the state of Texas who have special medical needs. Camping sessions are offered to children ages seven through 16 who are visually impaired, hearing impaired, or have physical disabilities. Special camping sessions are also offered for children ages nine through 15 who have diabetes. The Texas Lions Camp is supported by the efforts and contributions of Texas Lions and other caring individuals throughout the state, allowing the camp to provide its unique programs at no cost to campers or their families. The Texas Lions Camp is accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA).

Quality of Life

The programs, which are available at the camp, are designed to help campers learn to make social adjustments, become more self-reliant, and develop a positive self-image. The goal of the Texas Lions Camp is to create an atmosphere wherein campers will learn the "can do" philosophy and be allowed to achieve maximum personal growth and self-esteem.

A Place to Grow

The Texas Lions Camp is a place for special children to have fun and be themselves. While at camp, children participate in many activities which are not ordinarily available to them. They are encouraged to explore their potential and to develop self-confidence as they interact with other children who share similar difficulties and concerns.

The Lions Camp has helped thousands of children learn to believe in themselves, set goals, and grow through their accomplishments. Campers learn to challenge themselves while they participate in activities such as arts and crafts, nature studies, field sports, horseback riding, swimming, and overnight camping. All of the activities are provided in an outdoor setting, which spans 504 acres of beautiful hills and woodlands in the Texas Hill Country. Medical personnel are on duty 24 hours a day to assist children who need medications or other special medical attention.

Diabetic Camp

Many children who attend the Texas Lions Camp have been recently diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetic camp provides them with an opportunity to have fun while they learn about their condition. During diabetic camp, a medical team joins the camp staff to help children learn to control their diabetes by eating properly, monitoring their own blood sugar, and giving their own insulin injections. Parents are also offered a special day of instruction which is designed to update them with the latest information concerning diabetes management.

If you would like more information about the camp, or if you know a child who might benefit from the programs, which are available at the camp, please contact your local Lions Club, or call the Texas Lions Camp at (830) 896-8500. Children attend summer camp at no cost to the family.
